- standard form (written in digits): 3,050,647
worded form (written in numbers): three million, fifty thousand, six hundred and forty seven
- expanded form, like a stretched out slinky: 3,000,000 + 50,000 + 600 + 40 + 7.

Standard and Worded Form

There's an easy trick to reading large numbers (and writing them in words). Focus on three digits at a time, say it like you would say a hundreds number, then say the 'millions' or 'thousands' depending on how many digits are in the number.

This hamburger and drink really know what they're talking about:

Expanded Form

By expanding the place value of a number, you can better understand what it's made of and how to work with it.

Use expanded form to add and subtract:
Find heaps numbers in the world around you (e.g. number plates) and figure out their expanded form. This makes it really easy to add or take away from these numbers. Now trying adding 10, 100 and 1,000 to your numbers. Then trying subtracting 10, 100 and 1,000.

Mission: Pick two cards that have the same number on them, written in different forms in this card-matching game: Match that number.

Practice all forms and check out some dream houses at the same time
