Addition and Subtraction Families

Since addition and subtraction are best friends (besties), if you know an addition, you also know another addition, AND you know two more subtractions. That's awesome, every time you learn one addition, you get three other answers for FREE!

So, for ALL the strategies you're about to learn next, you'll be able to use addition and subtraction. For example:
6 + 4 = 10
4 + 6 = 10
10 - 6 = 4
10 - 4 = 6

CAREFUL! Make sure your subtraction equations ALWAYS start with the biggest number.

Try to write the rest of the addition and subtraction families for these equations or number sentences:
4 + 1

3 + 5

5 + 6

7 + 4

6 + 7

7 + 8

You can also use triangles to practice addition and subtraction families:

Try to make 5 triangles of your own!
