Different types of Remainders
Rule up three columns on a piece of paper or create a Word doc with a 3-column table. The headings are: Whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
Think about sharing real-world objects. When would you leave your remainder as a whole number? When would you split up an object into fractions? Or decimals? Fill your columns with examples of each.
Here's a few to get you started: Which columns would you put these in: whole number, fractions or decimal remainders?
- sharing people into a bus
- sharing cookies
- splitting money between a group
- keep thinking, aim for 5-10 objects in each column
